SUMMARY:Trail Work Party at Burns Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us to reopen the trail adjacent to the Hospitality House at Burns Park. Bonus\, you’ll have plenty of time to help out\, have some lunch\, and still get to your Super Bowl Party.\n\nThis trail is the foundation on which we can potentially build more trails. We need to clear the trail corridor\, bench-cut several areas\, and do some rock armoring.\nNo experience is needed and tools will be provided if you need them. Do bring work gloves\, and hydration\, and let’s get this trail opened!\n\nWe call it a trail work PARTY\, so lunch will be provided for all volunteers. BRING YOUR OWN REUSABLE PLATE AND UTENSILS.\n\nUseful tools to bring if you have them:\nLopper\, rakes\, rock bar\, shovels.

SUMMARY:Ozark Society-Pulaski Chapter Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Joe Jacobs shares his insights on the controversial topic\, Rebranding the Buffalo. Mr. Jacobs will be presenting about the interest that Runway Group\, co-founded by Stuart Walton and Tom Walton\, has in changing the designation of the Buffalo National River to a National Park. He will explore some of the reasons for making and not making the designation change. Mr. Jacobs\, who first wrote about this topic on his website ArkansasOutside.com in October 2023\, served as the marketing and revenue manager for Arkansas State Parks for 17 years\, and has been the owner/editor of Arkansas Outside since 2011. This\, along with his extensive travel and connections throughout the state\, has helped him become an authority on outdoor recreation in\nArkansas. \nA bit of background on this issue – Ozark Society President Brian Thompson sent to our membership last November the organization’s current position on the redesignation: Regarding the proposed reclassification of the Buffalo National River to a “park-preserve\,” we recognized this as a very preliminary idea. For that reason\, we felt that continued listening was more prudent than an early conclusion. The proposal has since been withdrawn but we continue to watch in case there are any further developments. Irrespective of recent events\, rest assured that our independent advocacy for the preservation of the Buffalo National River\, is bedrock to our organization’s mission.
