SUMMARY:Kayak paddling clinic with ACA certified instructors
DESCRIPTION:Are you new to kayaking or want to try it? Maybe you’ve never had any actual instruction? This is a great\, controlled environment (vs moving water) to get comfortable in a kayak and learn basic paddling strokes.\n\nBring your kayak or borrow one from a friend (no gear will be provided) and spend Tuesday evening\, August\, 15 at Lake Nixon from 6:00-8:00 PM with some of our club’s ACA-certified instructors (Liz\, Joel\, and Elene) to learn how to paddle your kayak efficiently. We’ll cover “go” strokes\, “side” strokes\, “turn” strokes\, and the ever-popular “keep you upright” strokes. We’ll also do some flatwater exercises that apply directly to moving water.\n\nWhitewater (creek\, play\, or down river) or recreational kayaks (sit in or sit on) only please.\n\nMake sure to also bring a life jacket and water bottle.\n\nThis is free to ARKANSAS CANOE CLUB members and those in their households. If you’re not a current member\, we welcome you\, it’s only $25/year/household to join and has a lot of benefits.\nCome out\, learn some skills\, and make new paddling friends.\n\nYou can go online and join at www.arkansascanoeclub.com and make sure you sign the online waiver if you haven’t yet this year:\nhttps://forms.gle/rzXf3gozHJps2FUG8

SUMMARY:Scorchin' Squirrel Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:The Scorching’ Squirrel is a trail race through Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center’s 1200 acres located just 10 miles west of Little Rock.  There are 4 distance options: a 10k (1 loop)\, 11.5 mile (2 loops)\, 15.5 mile (3 loops) or 19.5 mile (4 loops). All distances are approximate.  Each loop passes through 1 full aid station and one water drop.   There will be refreshments at the end with a cook out at the pool.  Please bring stuff to share although Fleet Feet Little Rock and Ferncliff will provide burgers and hot dogs.  We will begin serving food at 10 AM.  No glass containers please.  No pets. \nThis is a great race for heat training and for trying out trail running with the shorter distances.  There is quite a bit of incline throughout the course and a few water crossings in wet weather. \nAll the distances end back at the start of the race\, which is at the Ferncliff pool pavilion.  The pool will be open after the race.  It has a large covered pavilion and runners can cool off and enjoy some food and refreshments.  There are lots of changing stalls. \nAny proceeds from the event will support Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center.  If you’d like to reserve lodging the evening before the event call 501-821-3063 to reserve a room or cabin. \nIt takes about 25 volunteers to do this event right.  Would you like to volunteer and have a great time supporting runners and get a free t-shirt?  If so please fill out this very brief volunteer application:  https://forms.gle/HeqTSnAQR2WghPqn6 \nClick Here to view the approximate route:  https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1404552 \nStrava course map for one loop completed:  https://www.strava.com/activities/5680121722?share_sig=6F664A841628868806&utm_medium=social&utm_source=ios_share \nAll distances begin: 7:00 am with a  6:50 am Mandatory Race Briefing

Successful completion of the entire program will result in a two year nationally recognized certification. \n  \nStudents completing the course will receive a nationally recognized 16hr SRI Wilderness First Aid Card (good for three years!) \n  \nCPR \nComplete your training with our “American CPR” nationally certified Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED course. \nThis program will give you a solid set of skills to perform CPR\, use an AED\, and manage choking in Adults\, Children and Infants. \n  \nWe bring real life experience to the program and a learning format that helps make sure that you learn effectively and in a way that you will be able to remember! \n  \nThis course results in a 2-year nationally recognized layperson provider certification. \n  \nAbout the Instructor: \nThis course will be taught by Tom Burroughs\, NREMT/WEMT. Since 1990\, Tom has been focused on providing care in emergency situations and in remote environments. Currently the team leader for Washington CO.
