SUMMARY:Village Creek 10K/25K Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to year 11! \nVillage Creek the Legend! Lace ‘em up tight! Like we always say\, “Mud\, Sweat\, and Tears!” That’s what you will find here at Village Creek State Park. The 31st and 2nd largest in Arkansas. Located just 6 miles south of Wynne\, Village Creek State Park encompasses nearly 7\,000 acres. We have an amazing multi-use trail system that is virtually untouched by the running community most of the year. Equestrian\, Mountain Bike\, and Hiking Trails combine to form a little over 26 miles of manicured sweetness atop the geologic anomaly know as Crowley’s Ridge. \nOur race features a multitude of ups and downs\, both physically and emotionally! Your day will consist of creeks\, mud\, leaves\, sticks\, steep ridgelines\, and our infamous rolling pipeline. All the while a tub of buttercream icing and warm homemade cinnamon rolls wait for you at the finish. \nThe start/finish sits at the edge of our lower campground and boasts some of the most pristine bath houses of any state park! You can camp so close to the start line that all ya gotta do is roll over toot\, tinkle\, brush\, and run! If cabins are more your thing\, no fear! Village Creek has a number of 5 star cabins available just up the hill towards Lake Dunn. \nThe 25k has a 6 hour time limit. You have approximately 3hr and 15min to make it to our bib check at the 25k turn around. If you have not checked out of the turn around by the 3:15 mark chances are you aren’t gonna get a cinnamon roll….I kid\, I kid! You just won’t get a hot one! \nThe 25K is an out and back route starting at the bicycle entrance to the following markers 13\,14\,15\,16\,17\,18\, north past 19 towards 20 where you will reach the turnaround. Aid stations will be at approximate half way points for both races. This is a cup free race! Bring your own bottles! The 10k is an out and back\, also will follow markers 13\,14\,15\,16\, turnaround go back to finish.

Later incarnations of a One Hour Track Run were located in El Dorado and later Camden\, Arkansas\, and were a Grand Prix staple in the 1990’s. After 1998\, the One Hour Track Run ceased to be run until the Long Distance Running Committee decided to revive it as part of the 25th Running of the Grand Prix in 2006. Fittingly\, the One Hour Track Run returned to Russellville for Grand Prix XXV\, and was held at the Russellville High School Track. \nThe course is a standard\, 400 meter track. Very Flat! SUMMARY:White Rock Classic 50K
DESCRIPTION:The course is on well maintained forest roads with some trail sprinkled in for good fun. \nImportant Note About Course: Avoid the recreation area\, campground area\, parking area\, at the top of White Rock Mountain\, this is not part of the course! This is important as we could lose access to this course. We will enjoy the amazing view at the Sunset Point while running the Rim Trail \nWe can no longer have alternative starts as in running to the top\, riding bike back\, starting at the top and running to the start/finish area. We have to start at the starting line and finish by crossing the finish line for both distances.

SUMMARY:Ozark Society-Pulaski Chapter Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Joe Jacobs shares his insights on the controversial topic\, Rebranding the Buffalo. Mr. Jacobs will be presenting about the interest that Runway Group\, co-founded by Stuart Walton and Tom Walton\, has in changing the designation of the Buffalo National River to a National Park. He will explore some of the reasons for making and not making the designation change. Mr. Jacobs\, who first wrote about this topic on his website ArkansasOutside.com in October 2023\, served as the marketing and revenue manager for Arkansas State Parks for 17 years\, and has been the owner/editor of Arkansas Outside since 2011. This\, along with his extensive travel and connections throughout the state\, has helped him become an authority on outdoor recreation in\nArkansas. \nA bit of background on this issue – Ozark Society President Brian Thompson sent to our membership last November the organization’s current position on the redesignation: Regarding the proposed reclassification of the Buffalo National River to a “park-preserve\,” we recognized this as a very preliminary idea. For that reason\, we felt that continued listening was more prudent than an early conclusion. The proposal has since been withdrawn but we continue to watch in case there are any further developments. Irrespective of recent events\, rest assured that our independent advocacy for the preservation of the Buffalo National River\, is bedrock to our organization’s mission.
