SUMMARY:The Big (Trail) Run Presented by Brooks
DESCRIPTION:On June 5\, all Fleet Feet locations will participate in the The Big Run\, a nationwide event coinciding with Global Running Day. We will  be running on one of the “funnest” surfaces to run on:  TRAIL! Now is the time to venture out and try something new to you. We will be holding are race in Western Hills Park\, a relatively flat course with very few rocks and roots. That makes this race the perfect adventure for your first trail run. \nIf you ask most people in Little Rock where they run\, a large majority will say\, “The River Trail.” This trail that we love so much\, is one of the many parks and trails maintained by Little Rock Parks and Rec. 100% of the proceeds of The Big (Trail) Run go to Little Rock Parks and Rec. We want this fun run to be one of the biggest 5kish trail runs around. Come show your appreciation and run\, walk or a little of both on the trails of Western Hills Park. \nThe Big Run is open to runners of all levels and abilities.

SUMMARY:Major Taylor 111 at the Port
DESCRIPTION:“Major Taylor 111 at the Port” is a cycling event created through a partnership of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Little Rock (MTCCLR) and the local non-profit Recycle Bikes for Kids (RB4K). \nMT111 will become one of the most sought-after cycling events in the country. Supported by the Little Rock Port Authority\, local cyclists and bike enthusiasts from around the country will want to attend for the unique aspects of this ride with a Major Taylor flavor. \nOn June 7th\, starting at the Little Rock Port Authority headquarters\, participants will ride through the Port\, visit Wrightsville\, Redfield\, and continue to Pine Bluff. Riders then proceed to the Arkansas River crossing on Highway 79 and visit England\, Keo\, and Scott before returning to the Port.  The route is one hundred and eleven miles long with shorter options of 62 miles\, 50 miles\, and 25 miles.  There will also be a one-mile sprint segment honoring the race that made Marshall “Major” Taylor a world champion. Sprint through the one-mile Strava segment setup within the MT111 and compare your time to Major Taylor’s winning time at the 1899 World Track Championships of 1 minute\, 41 seconds. \nThis ride will benefit underserved communities. The Major Taylor Cycling Club members will visit schools\, educate students about bicycles\, distribute free bicycles from RB4K\, and hand out books about U.S. pro rider Marshall “Major” Taylor. This not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also provides a means to exercise for the youth in the state of Arkansas. \nIn addition\, this ride will allow RB4K and MTCCLR to purchase and install bicycle repair stations at the schools\, which helps the community where the bike stations are placed\, and helps the cycling community as a whole. The first location scheduled to receive a repair stand is the Brooks Library in Wrightsville\, Arkansas. \nPartnering with the businesses located in the Port of Little Rock\, the MT111 will establish a sense of community with the Port\, with cyclists and the people that visit Little Rock for this event. \nMTCCLR Mission Statement: The Major Taylor Cycling Club of Little Rock shall promote cycling as Recreation and Transportation\, promote Physical Fitness\, foster Community and Camaraderie\, commit to Inclusivity and Support\, engage in Charitable Initiatives and offer Educational Outreach. \nRB4K Mission Statement: Recycle Bikes for Kids gives free bikes to kids\, provides adults the opportunity to earn a bike\, and supports bike infrastructure and education in our community. \n  \nOne Eleven Map:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49421842 \n  \nMetric Century Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49835791 \n  \n52 Mile Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49835724 \n  \n24 Mile Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49835667

This program is part of a larger goal of encouraging individuals to connect with other cyclists\, clubs\, and bike shops. We hope to foster a spirit of community and help relieve concerns related to riding in a group.  Additionally\, this effort includes several Big Dam Bridge sponsor activations as well as other local events when appropriate. \nThe training rides will begin on June 14th and continue every other Saturday through September 20th. Each ride will start at 7:30am from Lost Forty Brewing (501 Byrd St\, Little Rock\, AR 72202) and will return to the same location upon completion.  See map LINK for more details on parking. \nRiders will be divided into groups based on experience and ability. These groups will accommodate any level of cyclist; from the absolute beginner who just recently purchased a bike\, an enthusiast who wants to increase his or her mileage and average speed\, as well as a seasoned cyclist who is aiming for their best time for the 105-mile route. \nOn June 11th\, we will host a Q&A session at Lost Forty Brewing (501 Byrd St\, Little Rock\, AR 72202) from 6pm to 7pm that will provide program details including mileage and pacing for each of these groups.
