SUMMARY:Mid-South Race for Hope Marathon & Half Marathon 10K & 5K
DESCRIPTION:The people of Cross County offer runners and walkers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of Corporate America. Rediscover what you love about running\, and enjoy a slice of rural America country running at the same time. \nThis is a USATF certified marathon\, out and back course\, and serves as a Boston Qualifier! \nAgain for 2023\, we offer the Hope Rising Children’s Home 5k distance! Registration is $60 for the marathon and half marathon and $30 for the 10k & 5k. \nWe will have aid stations approximately every mile\, and port-o-potties are also located near each station! Each aid station will be supplied with Vaseline\, Gatorade Endurance \, fruit\, salt\, pickles\, snacks\, and smiles! We serve a championship BBQ plate supper for all finishers! So come run in the country and let us show you some small town southern hospitality. \nWynne Baptist Church\, 1200 Bridges\, (just a short trot East of the Start Line) will be hosting the Friday night Pasta Supper/Packet Pick up. There will also a Race Day breakfast available before and after the start of the race in the high school cafeteria with biscuits\, sausage\, bagels and fruit! And don’t miss the BBQ lunch beginning at noon for all runners and their families and friends. \nWith a race course designed to highlight the scenic beauty and Southern charm of this corner of northeastern Arkansas\, the Midsouth Marathon & Half Marathon takes runners through a rural landscape filled with acres of delta farmland\, tree-lined country roads and the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains in the distance. \nFounded and organized by the Cross Country Ramblers\, a local running and walking club\, the race welcomes a few hundred runners each year\, a participant field size that enhances the race’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere. \nAll races start and finish at the Wynne High School football stadium\, and feature out-and-back courses that take runners along the scenic highway (Highway 64) that runs along the base of the hilly mountain ridge just to the east of Wynne\, known as Crowley’s Ridge. \nThe course features a number of rolling hills and long\, flat stretches — the first hill occurs between mile markers 1 and 2\, and is followed by a three-mile flat stretch between miles 2 and 5. \nAfter the mile 5 marker\, runners turn north onto Highway 163\, which those running the half marathon follow only for the next mile and a half before hitting the turnaround point\, while those running the full marathon continue on for the next five miles. \nThis section of the race is among its most scenic stretches\, as the hills of Crowley’s Ridge unfold along the two-lane road on the left while the Mississippi River delta lies in the distance on the right. \nOnce they hit the turnaround point\, runners follow the return course back to the finish line along the exact course they’ve just completed\, in reverse back to the stadium parking lot at the high school. \nWhile in town\, those participating the race will have recreational options to choose from both before and after the race\, from horseback rides and glider rides to a tour of Wynne’s Village Creek State Park. \nRace Weather & Climate\nLocated in the northeastern corner of Arkansas\, about an hour’s drive west from Memphis\, Tenn.\, the town of Wynne typically sees moderately cool to cold weather in the early fall season\, with heavier rainfall on average than the summer months. \nOn race day (Nov. 4)\, the average low is 42ºF and the average high is 65ºF.
