The 2017 and 2018 USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships will be held in Arkadelphia, Ark., USA Cycling announced on Monday.

Todd Wells won the men's pro/open division.

Todd Wells won the 2015 USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships pro title.

Tentatively scheduled for late spring 2017 and 2018, the Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships will be run on a mainly single-track course around DeGray Lake located in the hills of Arkansas.

“We’re very fortunate to have our 2017 and 2018 Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships in Arkadelphia within driving distance for many of our mountain biking members,” said Micah Rice, USA Cycling Vice President of National Events. “Fred Phillips is a well-respected race director in the area who has been running mountain bike races for years. With his expertise running events and that region’s passion for mountain biking, we know that this event will thrive in Arkansas.”

Arkadelphia is four hours from Dallas, three hours from Memphis and one hour from Little Rock. DLT Events is planning an endurance race called the Iron Mountain MTB Marathon on May 7, 2016, that will be a test event for the 2017 Championship.

“We here in Arkansas and DLT Events are excited to host such a prestigious event for USA Cycling,” said Phillips, DLT Events Executive Director. “The Iron Mt. Trail System and DeGray Lake in Arkadelphia is a system that was designed and built to host national caliber events. We look forward to sharing our community and venue with American cyclists from all over the country.”
