Wilderness First Aid (16hr)

This two day course immerses participants in basic wilderness medicine procedures, preparing individuals to take immediate action when an outdoor activity doesn’t go as planned and 911 Responders are hours away. Time is split between interactive classroom sessions and hands-on field scenarios to prepare participants and help them quickly develop basic backcountry medical care skills. The course focus is on patient assessment, stabilization and emergency treatment of issues such as hypothermia and snakebites, as well as understanding of when and how to attempt evacuation. Participants will emerge capable of calmly responding to a wide variety of emergency situations. Minimum age requirement for this course is 14.

Participants will need to be prepared to be outside approximately half of the training hours, regardless of weather conditions unless hazardous (storms or extreme cold). Participants should bring whatever items they commonly carry on their persons in the performance of their duties, as improvisational concepts are an important aspect of this course, and participants should also be equipped with a headlamp for the evening exercise. All participants will need to be dressed in clothing that can be stained and/or damaged, as the program is heavily hands on, and moulage will be used to promote training authenticity.

This OSRE/Sierra Rescue International certification course presents skills and techniques according to practice guidelines established by the Wilderness Medical Society as outlined in the Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines.

All program supplies and textbooks (which become property of the participants) are provided by Ozark Safety and Rescue Educators (OSRE) as part of the program cost. Successful completion of the entire program will result in a two year nationally recognized certification.

Students completing the course will receive a nationally recognized 16hr SRI Wilderness First Aid Card (good for three years!)

CPR

Complete your training with our “American CPR” nationally certified Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED course.

This program will give you a solid set of skills to perform CPR, use an AED, and manage choking in Adults, Children and Infants.

We bring real life experience to the program and a learning format that helps make sure that you learn effectively and in a way that you will be able to remember!

This course results in a 2-year nationally recognized layperson provider certification.
