Mountainfilm on Tour Little Rock

Mountainfilm on Tour Brings Adventure, Inspiration to Little Rock October 15

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

For one night in October, Little Rock outdoor enthusiasts can trade the trail, river, crag, or bike for a theater seat and experience adventures from around the world on the big screen.

Mountainfilm on Tour returns to Little Rock on Thursday, October 15, 2026, presented by Ozark Outdoor Supply. The evening will feature a selection of documentary short films chosen from the annual Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colorado.

The event will be held at Ron Robinson Theater — Central Arkansas Library System in downtown Little Rock. The pre-show gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. with beer and wine available, theater doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the films begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets start at $20, and a portion of ticket sales will benefit the Buffalo River Foundation, adding a direct Arkansas conservation connection to the evening.

Bringing Telluride to Little Rock

Mountainfilm began in Telluride in 1979, making it one of North America’s longest-running documentary film festivals. What started with strong roots in climbing and mountaineering has expanded into a festival covering adventure, conservation, culture, communities, environmental issues, and people pursuing extraordinary goals.

Today, the festival is also an Academy Award-qualifying festival in the Documentary Short Film category.

Mountainfilm on Tour extends that experience well beyond Colorado.

The touring program began in 1999 and takes selections from the annual Telluride festival to communities around the world. Tour screenings are hosted by outdoor retailers, nonprofit organizations, schools, universities, theaters, local governments, and other community groups.

Little Rock is one of the official stops on the 2026 tour schedule.

More Than Adventure Films

Anyone expecting two hours of nothing but ski lines, climbing routes, and mountain bike jumps may be surprised.

Adventure remains an important part of Mountainfilm, but the festival has developed a reputation for documentaries that use outdoor pursuits as a starting point for much larger stories.

The 2026 Telluride festival included films about climbing, skiing, running, rivers, conservation, wildfire recovery, wildlife, Indigenous culture, communities facing economic change, and people adapting to life-changing circumstances. The year’s lineup included more than 20 short films making their Mountainfilm debuts in addition to feature documentaries.

That variety is central to the touring program. Mountainfilm describes its tour catalog as including more than 40 films selected from the annual festival, allowing individual tour programs to combine adventure with environmental, cultural, and human-interest stories.

The Little Rock screening will feature a collection of culturally rich, adventure-focused, and documentary short films selected from Mountainfilm. A Mountainfilm presenter will also guide the audience through the program, providing background on the films, filmmakers, and people featured on screen.

Why See Mountainfilm on the Big Screen?

Outdoor films have never been easier to find online. What Mountainfilm on Tour offers is something different: a curated program and a shared experience.

Instead of scrolling through individual videos at home, audiences see a collection chosen from films screened at one of the country’s longest-running documentary festivals. The subjects and activities can change dramatically from one film to the next, which is part of the appeal.

One film might take viewers onto a remote climbing wall. The next could follow a runner reconnecting with culture and community, document an environmental challenge, or introduce someone finding a new way forward after life takes an unexpected turn.

The short-film format also allows the program to cover considerably more territory than a conventional movie night.

And there is something to be said for seeing outdoor cinematography on a theater screen with a room full of people who hike, paddle, climb, run, ride, travel, and explore.

Mountainfilm calls the common thread connecting its films the “indomitable spirit,” stories about people pushing boundaries, confronting challenges, protecting places, or finding meaning through their experiences. The organization’s broader mission is to use film, art, and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.

A Night for Arkansas’s Outdoor Community

The Little Rock stop also makes the evening more than a touring film screening.

Ozark Outdoor Supply has been part of Arkansas’ outdoor community since 1972 and is one of the state’s oldest and most experienced outdoor outfitter. The Little Rock specialty retailer has spent decades serving hikers, backpackers, paddlers, climbers, skiers, travelers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Bringing Mountainfilm to Little Rock creates another opportunity for that community to gather, this time without worrying about trail conditions, water levels, weather, or whether somebody remembered the headlamp.

Ozark Outdoor Supply has been bringing outdoor oriented Arkansans together around Mountainfilm for over 10 years.

There is also an Arkansas connection built directly into the ticket. A portion of every ticket sold will benefit the Buffalo River Foundation, so attending the screening also provides support for an organization focused on protecting the Buffalo National River watershed.

For people who spend their free time outside, enjoy documentary filmmaking, or simply appreciate a good story, Mountainfilm on Tour offers a chance to experience a little of Telluride without leaving Arkansas.

And there is a good possibility you’ll leave the theater thinking about where you want to go next.
