One of Arkansas’s largest cycling celebrations is moving to the fall, with organizers hoping the new dates will provide more favorable weather for riders, exhibitors, and spectators.

Bentonville Bike Fest is making a significant change to its annual schedule. After years of holding the popular cycling festival in the spring and early summer, organizers have announced that the 2027 event will take place September 24 through 26.
The move follows several years of weather-related challenges, including a tornado in 2024 and flooding in 2025. The festival will also continue its partnership with the National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA), which will hold its Retailer Summit immediately before the public event.
According to an October 5 report from Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, some exhibitors had requested the change in hopes of avoiding the unpredictable weather that has disrupted previous festivals.
Severe Weather Influences the Decision
Weather has presented significant challenges for Bentonville Bike Fest in recent years.
In May 2024, an early-morning tornado struck the festival grounds, destroying vendor displays and forcing organizers to cancel the remainder of the event after its opening day. The following year’s festival experienced flooding that affected activities.
Despite those setbacks, the 2026 festival, held in June, benefited from favorable weather and attracted record attendance, according to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News.
The move to late September is intended to improve the chances of favorable conditions, although fall weather in Northwest Arkansas can still be unpredictable.
For an event that relies heavily on outdoor demonstrations, competitions, and vendor exhibits, weather conditions can significantly affect both attendance and operations.

Racing, Demonstrations, and Cycling Culture
Founded by Belgian professional trials rider Kenny Belaey, Bentonville Bike Fest has developed into a major gathering for mountain bikers, gravel riders, cycling enthusiasts, and bicycle industry representatives.
The festival combines professional competitions with opportunities for recreational riders and families to experience the region’s cycling culture.
The 2027 event is expected to continue featuring bicycle and equipment demonstrations, competitions, workshops, and a large outdoor industry expo.
The Red Bull Double Down competition is scheduled to return for its second year at the festival, adding another professional cycling attraction to the weekend.
Previous festivals have featured trials riding, dirt jumping, enduro racing, gravel competitions, children’s activities, live entertainment, and opportunities to test bicycles from major manufacturers. The complete 2027 competition and activity schedule has not yet been announced.
The festival also provides visitors with an opportunity to explore Bentonville’s extensive trail system, including nearby Coler Mountain Bike Preserve and the region’s growing network of mountain biking and gravel routes.

Part of a Broader Cycling Industry Trend
Bentonville is not the only cycling festival reconsidering its traditional dates.
The Sedona Mountain Bike Festival in Arizona has also shifted from spring to fall for 2026, with its event scheduled for November 6 through 8. Organizers there similarly sought more favorable weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Philly Bike Expo has announced a move to May for 2027 after previously shifting from fall to spring.
These schedule changes illustrate how major cycling events are adjusting their calendars to accommodate weather, exhibitors, and participants.
What the Change Means for Arkansas Cycling
Moving Bentonville Bike Fest to September places the event during one of Arkansas’s popular outdoor recreation seasons.
Northwest Arkansas typically experiences cooler temperatures as summer transitions into fall, making the season attractive for mountain biking, gravel riding, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
The new dates could also allow visitors to combine the festival with additional days exploring the area’s trail networks, restaurants, and other outdoor attractions.
However, the September schedule also places Bentonville Bike Fest in an already busy period for Arkansas cycling and outdoor events. Riders and organizers will need to consider potential calendar conflicts as additional 2027 event dates are announced.
For Bentonville, the festival remains an opportunity to showcase the region’s cycling infrastructure, outdoor recreation economy, and connections to the national bicycle industry.
With the move to fall, organizers are hoping to build on the record attendance reported in 2026 while reducing the weather-related disruptions that affected previous years.
