Mount Magazine State Park Among Grantees
Seven climbing areas across the United States will soon receive new, modern hardware thanks to Access Fund’s annual Anchor Replacement Fund grant program. This year’s grantees include Mount Magazine State Park in Arkansas, where the Arkansas Parks and Recreation Foundation, in partnership with the Arkansas Climbers Coalition and Arkansas State Parks, will receive funding for anchor replacement work.
Bolt replacement is a critical aspect of maintaining the safety and sustainability of climbing areas. While bolts provide essential protection for climbers, they can degrade over time due to factors such as corrosion, improper installation, and overuse. Recognizing and addressing these issues is crucial to prevent accidents and ensure the continued enjoyment of climbing. More information is available on the Access Fund page.
Mount Magazine, known for its historical and celebrated climbing areas, will see upgrades to aging fixed anchors at Breakfast Wall, Crag Central, the Hallucinogen Wall, and East End. These upgrades will ensure the long-term sustainability of the park’s climbing resources.

“When it comes to replacing old and aging fixed hardware, land managers can and should count on the expertise of local climbers,” says Daniel Dunn, Access Fund’s eastern regional access director. “We’re proud to partner with these seven local climbing organizations to support their bolt replacement efforts and to keep these climbing areas open and conserved.”
Other grantees include Granite Dells in Arizona, Berkeley Crags in California, Garden of the Gods and Red Rock Open Space in Colorado, Silver Mountain in Michigan, Kiedaisch Point Park in Ohio, and Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park in South Dakota.
