RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas High Country Race is set to bring elite endurance competition back to downtown Russellville this weekend, combining grueling gravel routes with small-town hospitality and community celebration.

The event begins Friday evening, Oct. 3, with a free outdoor concert featuring Tacie and the Sunshine Band. The performance is the grand finale of the Music Downtown at Sundown Summer Concert Series hosted by Main Street Russellville and doubles as the official pre-party for the race.

“Main Street Russellville is thrilled to have the ARHC race in downtown Russellville again this year,” said Danielle Housenick, executive director of Main Street Russellville. “We love sharing our downtown hospitality with the racers both before and once they finish the race.”

Riders will roll out from downtown Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7 a.m. to tackle one of three demanding courses: the 1,000-mile full loop, the Ozark Odyssey or the Central Loop. Each route challenges athletes with rugged terrain, long climbs and the mental toughness needed for multi-day endurance racing.

This year’s race features a first for the Arkansas High Country: a head-to-head showdown between professional ultra-endurance cyclists Matt Pike and Justinas Leveika. The matchup is expected to draw international attention to Russellville’s start line.

“We’ve seen some of the best endurance athletes in the world come to our race,” said race organizer Chuck Campbell. “Many of these guys and girls want to test themselves on this route, but this is the first time two professionals are racing head-to-head. This is a big deal for our race. Heck, this is a big deal for Arkansas.”

Spectators can participate through “dot-watching,” following riders in real time via GPS tracking as they climb Poteau Mountain or descend through the Ouachita and Ozark ranges. Community viewing parties are planned throughout the week to keep fans engaged.

This year’s race is powered by Brightspeed, a sponsor dedicated to supporting rural communities with reliable high-speed internet access. Organizers said the partnership reflects the race’s spirit of connection and exploration.

The Arkansas High Country Race blends endurance sport, music and community, making Russellville a hub of activity for cyclists and spectators alike this weekend.
