Arkansas PBS to Spotlight Greenway Trail Development on “Arkansas Week”

2025 Bike City Fondo

Arkansas PBS will feature an in-depth discussion on the burgeoning network of greenway trails for walking and bicycling across the state on its upcoming episode of “Arkansas Week.” The segment, hosted by veteran journalist Dawn Scott, will air at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, with a repeat broadcast at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

The program will provide viewers with the latest updates on several key trail projects, including the ambitious Southwest Trail, which aims to connect Central High School in Little Rock to Hot Springs National Park. Recent progress on this 65-mile multi-use trail includes the completion of the first phase in Pulaski County, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting in April 2025, and an upcoming groundbreaking ceremony on May 14, 2025, for Saline County’s first segment.

The discussion will also cover significant developments on the Delta Heritage Trail, an 84.5-mile path through the scenic Arkansas Delta, which is slated for full completion in late 2025. Updates will include progress on the final sections connecting Snow Lake to the Yancopin Bridge, including the retrofitting of major river bridges.

Viewers will also learn about the Southeast Trail in Little Rock, which recently saw a groundbreaking for its first phase and aims to link the Arkansas River Trail at the Clinton Presidential Library to the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport and areas further east. Other greenway infrastructure projects from around the state will also be part of the conversation.

Joining Dawn Scott for this timely discussion will be a panel of experts and key figures in trail development:

  • Joe Jacobs, Owner/Editor of ArkansasOutside.com and Vice President of Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas, will offer insights from a user and advocacy perspective.
  • Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde, who has been actively involved in the Southwest Trail’s progress in his county.
  • Saline County Judge Matt Brumley, who has played a key role in advancing sections of the Southwest Trail within Saline County, including the historic Old River Bridge restoration.
