The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has announced the closure of Rocky Branch, Horseshoe Bend, and Prairie Creek campgrounds and picnic areas at Beaver Lake due to safety concerns following severe storms over the weekend.
Excessive debris, downed trees, and exposed powerlines pose significant risks to visitors, prompting the USACE to prioritize public safety. Boat launch ramps at the affected locations will remain accessible.
The closures will allow USACE staff and impacted visitors time to clear debris and remove damaged vehicles and campers. Staff are currently notifying and refunding visitors with reservations at the closed campgrounds.
“We understand this closure may cause inconvenience,” said a USACE spokesperson, “but believe it’s necessary to ensure the safety of park visitors. We anticipate the closures to last at least seven days, while crews work to restore safe access to the campgrounds and picnic areas.”
