On October 8th and 9th, 2022, the park is celebrating the many ways visitors enjoy healthy activities outdoors and personal rejuvenation through the natural resources at Buffalo National River.  All are invited to participate in the free activities listed below.

  • All day, Saturday and Sunday, October  8-9, 2022: Parkwide Scavenger Hunt. Photo geocaching locations will be set up around the park, encouraging visitors to get outside and explore the secret spots of the park.  Find them all to get a prize!
  • 6:00 pm-9:30 pm, Saturday, October 8, 2022:  Moon Party at Tyler Bend  Come learn about and enjoy the beauty of the full moon at America’s First National River! Rangers will discuss myths, mysteries, and misconceptions along with fun facts about our only natural satellite.  If you think the moon is just a rock orbiting the Earth, meet us at the Tyler Bend Pavilion to be inspired. Telescopic views of the moon as it rises will be available to participants.
  • 9:30 am-10:00 am, Saturday, October 8, 2022: Yoga in the Park. Stretch out the kinks of a busy summer with some beginner’s yoga at the Steel Creek and Buffalo Point Campgrounds. Bring a yoga mat and join instructors in stretching exercises.

These events are the final part of a series of special event weekends scheduled throughout 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Buffalo National River. Buffalo National River was originally designated by Congress as public land in 1972 to conserve the unique scenic and scientific features of the area while preserving as free flowing an important segment of the Buffalo River for the enjoyment of future generations.
