The results are in for the 2012 Cross Winds Classic Road Bike Race. I posted my story on the race this past weekend but wanted to follow up with more details on how the race went in general.
233 people raced which is very good for an inaugural race. Perfect riding weather, a great course and riders ready to escape a winter that never really happened helped to increase participation. With temperatures in the upper 50’s f or most of the race and very light winds which is unusual for this part of the state everything was set for a good day of racing.
Racers came from all over Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi.
The course was multiple clockwise 13.1 mile laps on some flat, smooth asphalt between the Galloway exit off I-40 and Scott, AR. The small amount of wind was only noticeable when heading north and then only if you were leading the pack or like me, had been dropped.
The results are available here but I should mention that race organizers had problems with camera equipment used to judge finishes so not all results are accurate. It was great to see a lot of friends at the first real cycling event of the new year. With racers coming from so far away I’m sure that the local economy was boosted with travel, lodging and dining dollars. Thanks to DLTMultisport and USA Cycling for putting on the race and I look forward to seeing (maybe riding) it next year.
Photos from the event are available on our Flickr Site. Enjoy.
