Registration ends Thursday; volunteer opportunities are available

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A new event will be held this weekend as part of the Fayetteville Race Series. Along with encouraging participation – whether as a racer, spectator, or volunteer – the City of Fayetteville wants to notify people about road closures that will take place in the Dickson Street Entertainment District.

Dickson Street Mile

The Dickson Street Mile will be held from 7-9 a.m. Saturday, July 27. The event will feature a variety of race heats, offering options for all ages and skill levels: speedsters, strollers, walkers and even dogs!

The 1-mile course starts and ends on W. Dickson St. at the intersection with N. Gregg Ave. Its path includes N. West Ave., W. Spring St., and N. East Ave. before returning to Dickson. During the event, those street sections will be blocked off to traffic.

“The race environment to is going to feel like a parade, having engagement and excitement along the course for both participants and spectators,” said Tiffany Hoover, assistant recreation superintendent with Parks, Natural Resources and Cultural Affairs.

Registration ends Thursday for all categories, which includes a variety of recreation and competitive; youth, teen, and adult; men and women; and dogs and bartenders.
