Full Moon Walk…Less the Moon

NWA Spring Classic Road Race

More info on the 2013 event.

Yep! A walk in the moonlight…well, not really the moonlight as we had no moon tonight. Sometimes the moon doesn’t cooperate with the needs of us common folk. But the show went on anyway.

At 6 p.m. or so, a lot of people took to the Big Dam Bridge to walk to the other side and back. Groups started in North Little Rock and in Little Rock. Walkers were given a ticket once they reached the far side that they could use to pick up t-shirts and other goodies once they returned to the home side. KTHV anchor, Craig O’Neill, North Little Rock Mayor, Pat Hays and Pulaski County Judge, Buddy Villines were on hand to launch the event. O’Neill entertained the throngs of people and can be heard in the background of this video.

It seemed like a good time for everyone, their was no cost and most everyone walked away with some swag. Here are a few photos from the evening.

At first, they seems to just trickle by me at the top of the bridge.

Soon, I was caught in the swirl of people coming at me from both sides of the river.

I soon realized that the mayhem had only moved...it was free t-shirt time!

People seemed to really have a good time. The only thing I didn’t really appreciate was hearing people telling kids not to run. I mean, I’m all for safety but it’s a park and if a kid can’t run here, under the promise of a full moon then where can they run?

(P.S. it dawned on me while I was waiting for the start that it has been just over 5 years since the Big Dam Bridge was opened. Time flies when you’re having fun!)
