As the flowers bloom and the days lengthen, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore the many outdoor recreation opportunities offered by the City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department! Mike Simmons started in his current position of Outdoor Recreation Coordinator in September 2023. Mike has worked in the outdoor recreation/education field since 1989 working in summer camps in Western North Carolina. He has a B.S. in Recreation Management from the University of Montana.

According to Simmons, “My goals for this program are: To introduce people to a variety of outdoor activities, to help them develop healthy lifestyle habits, to spotlight the resources LR Parks & Rec has to offer, and help people experience the beauty of the Natural State.  The tagline for this program is “Outside and Unplugged”.

Walking:  Take a break from technology and immerse yourself in nature. Join Little Rock Parks’ staff for a lunchtime program where we will explore several parks. You’re welcome to join them for one walk or all of them. Take this opportunity to experience the beauty of your local parks.

Arkansas River Trail Cycling:  Experience the beauty of the Arkansas River Trail in the company of fellow cycling enthusiasts as you embark on a group ride.  Enjoy the stunning scenery as we pedal along the winding trail, taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
