Little Rock Parks and Recreation Seeks Public Input on Hindman Park Master Plan

The Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a series of community meetings to gather public input on the proposed Master Plan for Hindman Park. The 150-acre park, a unique blend of wetlands, forest, and mountain terrain, offers significant potential for outdoor recreation.

The proposed Master Plan includes the development of a variety of amenities to enhance the park, such as paved walking and biking trails, a playground, hiking and mountain bike trails, a championship disc golf course, fishing, kayaking, scouting, and improved park infrastructure. Additionally, the plan proposes connecting Hindman Park to Brodie Creek Park and Western Hills.

“I believe Hindman Park has the potential to become a premier outdoor recreation complex for mountain biking and disc golf. These low-impact, high-interest sports can attract tourists to our beautiful city, driving tourism through tournaments. Despite our limited resources and facilities, these activities can leverage our great parks and highlight the stunning eco and biodiversity here in Little Rock. This vision marries the conservation of natural spaces and the economic driver of tourism, and with grant funding, it is entirely achievable,” said Leland Couch, Director of Little Rock Parks and Recreation. “Youth recreation is vital, and activities like fishing, hiking, and scouting are integral to the Arkansan way of life. Access to quality park spaces and diverse recreational offerings supports our mission to support healthy lifestyles and community building. Neighborhood use is crucial, and this project presents a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with long-time partners in one unified site. The potential for Hindman Park is immense. I’m excited to see it flourish as a hub for outdoor enthusiasts and a cornerstone of our community.”
