Helena is positioning itself as a growing hub for outdoor recreation in the Delta with the launch of Mile Zero: Delta Outdoor Festival in April 2026. Formerly known as Delta Grind, the rebranded event reflects a shift toward deeper community roots and a long term vision tied to Helena’s landscape, culture, and economic future.

Scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, Mile Zero draws its name from the city’s role as a gateway to the Delta, anchored by connections to the Crowley’s Ridge Gravel Trail and the Delta Heritage Trail State Park. Organizers say the new name better reflects both place and purpose.

A Rebrand Rooted in Place and Community

“Mile Zero represents both a beginning and a homecoming,” said Ammen Jordan, Director of studioDRIFT. “This rebrand reflects our commitment to building something that belongs to Helena—an event that celebrates the Delta’s natural beauty while laying the groundwork for local leadership, economic vitality, and long-term community ownership.”

The new identity signals an event designed not only to attract visitors, but to reflect Helena’s character and invest in its future as an outdoor destination.

A Weekend of Outdoor Experiences Across the Delta

Mile Zero brings together cycling, running, paddling, and birding experiences designed to showcase the region’s natural assets. Activities range from beginner friendly outings to longer, more challenging adventures that span much of the Delta.

Cyclists can choose from gravel and road routes connecting to the Delta Heritage Trail and the Crowley’s Ridge Gravel Trail, with options suited for both casual riders and experienced cyclists. Runners will take on the Low Road Marathon, offering a unique route through the heart of the Delta.

Guided e bike birding tours travel to Saint Francis National Forest and Mississippi River State Park during peak spring songbird migration, while paddling and birding excursions explore the Mississippi River and surrounding wetlands.

One of the marquee offerings is a 600 mile gravel biking odyssey highlighting the Arkansas Delta and Crowley’s Ridge, designed for riders seeking a multi day endurance challenge.

Community Focus Beyond the Races

Beyond endurance events, Mile Zero places a strong emphasis on community engagement. The festival includes a bike block party, learn to ride sessions, bicycle giveaways, and shared meals for local youth and their families.

Organizers say these elements are central to the event’s mission of making outdoor recreation accessible and meaningful for local residents, not just visiting participants.

Supporting Long Term Trail and Economic Development

The festival continues to support studioDRIFT’s Crowley’s Ridge Gravel Trail Project, a long term initiative focused on trail connectivity, sustainable outdoor recreation, and economic growth across the Delta.

Mile Zero is intended to serve as both a celebration and a catalyst, introducing visitors to the region while investing in the infrastructure, partnerships, and momentum needed for Helena to thrive as an outdoor recreation destination.
