BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is now accepting applications for its all-new Trail Technician Program, starting this fall on September 13th. This innovative program addresses the surging need for skilled trail professionals by providing comprehensive training in a convenient weekend format.
Designed for busy schedules, the 12-week program offers hands-on learning and in-depth knowledge in crucial areas of trail management. Students will gain practical skills in trail construction and maintenance, planning and design, as well as the operation of heavy equipment used in trail development. The curriculum also includes specialized welding techniques for trail infrastructure and the repair of essential trail maintenance equipment.
This unique program equips graduates with the expertise to tackle the challenges of the ever-growing trail industry and contribute to the creation of sustainable trail systems.
Program Highlights:
- Trail Construction and Maintenance: Practical training in building and maintaining trails.
- Planning and Design: Learn to design effective and enjoyable trail systems.
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Hands-on experience with machinery used in trail construction.
- Welding for Trails: Develop specialized welding skills for trail infrastructure projects.
- Small Engine Repair: Training in the maintenance and repair of trail maintenance equipment.
The Trail Technician Program is structured to accommodate busy schedules, with classes held on weekends over 12 weeks. This flexible format makes it accessible for working professionals, volunteers, and those with other weekday commitments.
In 12 weekends, students can complete:
- Certificate of Proficiency in Trail Technician
- Certificate of Proficiency in Trail Management
These Certificates of Proficiency can be used to complete a Technical Certificate in Trail Construction and Management when additional Core Construction courses are added.
NWACC’s program is offered in partnership with leading organizations such as American Trails, the Professional Trail Builders Association (PTBA), the Trail Skills Project, The DIRTT Project, Trail Tools, and IMBA Europe. Local partners also provide students with community-focused learning opportunities and practical application experiences.

Graduates of the program will be prepared to achieve NOCTI (National Occupational Competency Testing Institute) Level-1 Trail Technician Certification, further demonstrating their expertise and readiness for the workforce.
