LAKEVIEW, Ark. – Arkansas State Parks celebrated the expansion of the Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail System at Bull Shoals–White River State Park this week, adding a major new amenity for outdoor enthusiasts in the Ozarks.

The trail system now stretches 14 miles, including four miles of newly built trail constructed by Progressive Trails. The expansion opens fresh access for both hikers and bikers to explore parts of the park that feature sweeping views of the White River. Following the ribbon cutting, cyclists officially opened the trail with a group ride.

Deputy Director Jeff King welcomed guests and recognized dignitaries in attendance. Park Superintendent Stewart Taylor outlined highlights of the project and details of the development process.

Secretary of Parks, Heritage and Tourism Shea Lewis emphasized the role of partners including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Friends groups, and local organizations in making the project a reality.

“The Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail System represents the best of what happens when state, local, and community partners come together to expand outdoor opportunities,” Lewis said. “This project enhances not only our park but also the regional tourism economy and outdoor recreation in Arkansas.”

First Gentleman Bryan Sanders spoke on behalf of the Governor’s Natural State Initiative, highlighting trail development and mountain biking as priorities for the state. Shannon Baker of the Trail Team of North Central Arkansas reflected on how the trail system will improve quality of life for local residents and the community.
