Alliance Makes Outdoor Skills and Conservation Curriculum
Available to Schools Across the ‘Natural State’
DALLAS – Oct. 20, 2020 – The leading provider of outdoor skill, safety, and conservation curriculum to schools nationwide—the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation—is partnering with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to make its unique Outdoor Adventures program available to middle and high schools across the state.
“The board of trustees of OTF is thrilled to establish this partnership with the state of Arkansas, which is so famous for its natural beauty, for its wildlife conservation and for being the heart of waterfowl hunting in the lower 48,” said OTF Board Chair Ricky Fairchild. “We’re excited to have our Outdoor Adventures program in place to help engender a love, passion, and appreciation of the outdoors in Arkansas’ youth to carry on the outdoor traditions and protect the state’s wild spaces.”
The Outdoor Adventures program is made available in Arkansas is a fun, interactive course where students are taught lifelong skills using an integrated curriculum comprised of math, science, writing, and critical thinking skills. The detailed lesson plans cover angler education, archery, hunter education, boater education, orienteering, survival skills, camping, outdoor cooking, challenge course, backpacking, mountain bike camping, paddle sports, rock climbing, shooting sports, CPR/first aid, and fauna, flora and wilderness medicine.
“The infrastructure that OTF has built around the OA program made it an easy fit with our programs,” said AGFC’s Chief of Education, Tabbi Kinion. “There aren’t other programs that take this holistic view to outdoor recreation and conservation by coordinating participation in all of the programs wildlife agencies already offer.”
Founded in 1981 in Dallas, Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation is a public nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. For many schools, grant money offsets the cost of the program, plus OTF offers matching funds for equipment as new schools join. The resulting classes can be taught as a P.E. course, local elective or with agricultural science and wildlife management.
The Outdoor Adventures education program is offered in more than 600 schools in 37 states nationwide reaching over 60,000 students each year.
The Outdoor Adventures curriculum is aligned with the National Standards NPE K1-12.1.7. The program includes an established curriculum and daily lesson plans covering a wide range of subjects including an end of unit exam.
