What began as a modest dream to provide 100 refurbished bikes to Central Arkansas children for Christmas in 2008 has evolved into a thriving nonprofit making a significant impact on the community. Since then, Recycle Bikes for Kids has grown from a one-man operation into a community-wide effort that has distributed thousands of bikes to underprivileged children.
The organization’s mission is to empower children through cycling by providing refurbished bicycles and fostering physical activity, independence, and environmental stewardship. By collecting and repairing donated bikes, Recycle Bikes for Kids meets a critical need for transportation and recreation and instills a sense of ownership and responsibility in the children they serve. Through bike safety education and distribution programs, the nonprofit aims to create a positive impact on the lives of countless young people, helping them build a strong foundation for a healthy and successful future.
Beyond its core mission, Recycle Bikes for Kids is deeply committed to sustainability. The organization reduces waste and promotes recycling by repurposing donated bikes, contributing to a greener planet. Over the years, the nonprofit has expanded its reach through partnerships with schools, community centers, and other organizations to distribute bikes to even more children in need.

Recycle Bikes for Kids has distributed over 22,000 bikes to the community since its founding in 2008. The organization collects bikes through individual donations, community drives, and scrapyards. Volunteers refurbish the bikes for distribution to children through direct giveaways, community events, and partnerships with organizations like Our House, Habitat for Humanity, and Arkansas CASA. Additionally, the “Earn-a-Bike” program allows individuals aged 16 and older to earn a bike through volunteer hours.
Today, Recycle Bikes for Kids remains a cornerstone of the Central Arkansas community. The sight of children riding their newly acquired bikes, filled with joy and independence, is a testament to the organization’s impact.
