Allsopp Park in Little Rock, Arkansas, hosted the highly anticipated Squatch ’til You Drop 6-Hour Trail Run, attracting runners from all levels across the region. The endurance event, known for its unique format and challenging course, invited participants to run as many laps as possible on the park’s winding trails within six hours. Racers embraced the course’s natural beauty and rugged paths as they tested their endurance, mental strength, and grit.
The event was organized and managed by Mike Simmons, the Outdoor Recreation Manager for the Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department. Around 75 people registered for this inaugural event, which features two races: a “fun run” that consists of one lap around the Squatch course, followed by a 6-hour endurance race.
The Squatch ’til You Drop course featured diverse terrain over the approximately 5K course, from steep climbs and rocky descents to root-strewn paths, all set against a picturesque backdrop of Arkansas’s fall foliage. Designed to push participants to their limits, the event allowed runners to set personal distance records, with some reaching over marathon or ultra-marathon distances before time was called. Those taking part could choose to run at their own pace, making it accessible for both experienced trail runners and newcomers to endurance events.
Daryl Rose of Flippin, Arkansas took first place overall with 10 laps completed in 5 hours and 31 minutes. Local athlete, Rachel Furman was the top woman and second overall with 10 laps in 5 hours and 40 minutes.
A festive atmosphere surrounded the event, with volunteers and spectators cheering runners on throughout the day. Aid stations set up along the course provided essential hydration and snacks to keep participants fueled. By the end of the six-hour mark, runners gathered for post-race festivities, sharing stories of the challenges and highlights they experienced on the trail. Members of the Central Arkansas Trail Alliance showed up to grill up some lunch for the runners and volunteers.
The Squatch ’til You Drop 6-Hour Trail Run has become a favorite in Little Rock’s trail running community for its emphasis on personal achievement and the supportive spirit among participants. As the event continues to grow, it not only challenges runners physically but also brings together Arkansas’s trail running community for a day of camaraderie and shared passion for the outdoors.
