Okay so I took the latest tag for the Leave No Trace Backyard Sessions and localized it a bit. The repeated phrase at last night’s LNT Backyard Session in the Witt Stephens Jr. Nature Center in Little Rock was “Bigfoot’s been doing it for years…Leave No Trace.”

Last night’s session was mainly an introduction to a weekend full of activities for the Leave No Trace travelling team. Unfortunately the message was not met by a lot of people. They seem to be stumbling with getting the word out about their presence. I don’t know if it is them or the local group who brought them here. The meeting last night only had 20-25 people in attendance. I found out about it through a personal invitation that only asked that I be there without really letting me know what it was and what would be presented. In researching it I found their website which didn’t give me much more information. I was able to find a schedule for the visit but it’s not very detailed.

The Leave No Trace message is a good one and something worth sharing in the community and I like that they seem to be taking the message out of just the back country and in to the front country. This visit seems to focus heavily on the Arkansas River Trail. That’s good news.

It was a wonderful event otherwise with some great presentations by the LNT Team. Some state park folks were in attendance, Game and Fish folks, Mayor Pat Hays and Some Arkansas Master Naturalist folks were there. Basically, the choir was present for the sermon. One thing that seemed to be of local interest is that some of the folks associated with the Arkansas River Trail would like to have trail users fill out a questionnaire about trail usage. Seems like a good idea that is in early development. I’ll let you know if I hear of anything else on that.
