Last night I headed out to County Farm Road between Two Rivers Park and the train tracks to see what the cycling time trials were all about. They were about going FAST!
The course was a 6.3 mile out and back starting from the train tracks and heading east all the way into Two Rivers Park to the loop and then back. The fastest riders completed it in just under 13 minutes. That’s averaging just over 29 miles an hour for the whole thing.
I saw a lot of different bike set ups for the race including everything from standard road bikes to full on, highly aerodynamic, time trial bikes and everything in between. One of the cool things about time trials is that it’s just you and the clock. You have no idea how you did against the pack until everyone is done. Riders take turns leaving the start one at a time every minute or so (I’m not sure what he exact interval was since I was down course a ways.)
It looks like a lot of fun and should really test your metal. They start at 6:30 pm on Thursday nights and the course will remain the same next week but after that they will be adding some distance and hills by going all the way to the Arboretum at Pinnacle Mountain State Park on Pinnacle Valley Road. The best place to park and watch is probably at Two Rivers Park where they have plenty of parking spaces and you can watch them come and go in the loop.
This was a tough photo shoot and I apologize for missing a few people. I expect to be out there in a couple of weeks to get some more photos. Until then, what I shot is available on our Flickr Page.
The time trials are sponsored by Boston Mountain Cyclists and The Community Bicyclist.
