So this week I had meetings at DeGray Lake Resort State Park near Arkadelphia, Arkansas. I spend a pretty good amount of time at this park since the system uses it for a lot of the training a commission meetings (I’ll be back next month for that).
We got to go on a wonderful but short sunset barge tour out on the lake. The interpreter was ready to answer all of our questions which ranged from how deep is it to how many people a year ride the barge. It’s actually a large party boat. In the winter they use it for eagle watch tours. They get 30 to 40 eagles a year on the lake. They also take groups out to snorkel on the far side of the lake where it is deeper and has more rock formations. After the tour we all went back to the lodge for a grand pool party.
The park also offers a full 18 hole championship golf course, camping, a riding stable (in season), numerous hiking trails, interpretive programming, a swimming beach, picnic areas with pavilions, a first class restaurant and conference center and more.
I did get a chance to get some running in one morning I was there. I ran about 3 miles on the park roads and didn’t see a car until about 5 minutes before I finished. I also saw a great sunrise come up over the marina area.
This weekend Lisa and I have a strange kind of triathlon in Russellville. Stay tuned for the story on that one.
