Wow! Between our coverage of the Capital City Classic 10K Run and the Ouachita Challenge Marathon Mountain Bike Race this weekend, it seems we’ve picked up a lot of new friends at Arkansas Outside. We’d like to take a second and show you around.
First off, what the heck are we doing? We developed Arkansas Outside back in 2011 as a way to promote and document some of the crazy fun we have while playing and racing outside in Arkansas. We stick to human powered events such as cycling, running, multi-sport, climbing, hiking/backpacking and paddling. Occasionally, we’ll drift off on a tangent but we really want to stick to these types of events. We figure that hunting, fishing and Razorback Football already have plenty of coverage.
Our Calendar of Events lists hundreds of upcoming training, competitive and fun venues to help you enjoy the outdoors. Posting events is free, and we’ll post it as long as it is relevant to our site and our mission. If you know of an event that we have missed you can submit them yourself or just let us know with the “contact us” button. This is a great way for race promoters to have a place to share event information without having to create their own website. You can also search events by type and dates and add them to your calendar through ical or Google calendar.
You can also be a part of the Arkansas Outside team by submitting articles and photography. Although we don’t have a budget to pay writers we can link to personal blogs to get you a little extra readership. We also try to float some swag to our contributors. All we ask is that you let us know what event you want to cover beforehand so we don’t get doubled up. Racer and organizer interviews, race reports, etc. are great. We do like to have a couple of photos for each story.
Speaking of photos, we really aren’t in this as photographers. When we shoot an event we are generally shooting for editorial (pictures to complement the story). We found that we take a lot of photos and often draw upon these for future stories. So what to do with hundreds of photos per event? We share them on Facebook. Feel free to grab these and use them on your own social media, in your timeline, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.
We have a lot of great ways to keep up with Arkansas Outside. We highly recommend that you sign up for our e-newsletter. We send out one per week (Sunday or Monday) letting you know about events coming up. Also make sure you like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, pin us on Pinterest, favorite us on You Tube and whatever you call that Vine thing.
We are supported by advertisers on our site so the best way to support us is to support them and let them know we sent you.
Thanks again for being an Arkansas Outside friend and we look forward to seeing you on the trail, road, lake, river, cliff-side or rock-face.
