A Quick Morning Stop

Bike Bentonville

I left the house early this morning heading to a meeting at DeGray Lake Resort State Park (yeah, sometimes it’s tough to be me). I left early so I could take my time and see what the sunrise had in store for me. I brought my new Nikon Coolpix P7000 to play with just in case a good shot presented itself. It was a clear sky so I figured that I wouldn’t get much in the way of shots of the sky. I always like the texture of a few white, puffy clouds to balance out with whatever I have happening in the bottom of the frame. So I’m riding along and realized I hadn’t stopped at the Rockport Ledge near Malvern, AR in several months and I owed it to myself to check things out.

It was nice a quiet down there on the banks of the Ouachita River. The water was a little low and it was a weekday early  in the morning. If you come when the dam up river is releasing you’ll see why this is a favorite with the playboaters. Also, a great beginners float is to put in up near the dam and float on down to the ledge. A wonderful, beautiful little float and only about 40 minutes outside of Little Rock. The morning was perfect for just wandering around the area. I did get to see an Osprey hunting for breakfast but he didn’t dive on anything while I was watching. So here are some photos you might enjoy of the morning.

The park has a lot of amenities including a bath house, picnic tables, boat ramp and nice paved walkways down to the water.

I think I might have to go learn this whole playboat thing one day soon.
