LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism (ADPHT) is making steady progress on several major projects across the state’s park system. From long-anticipated trail completions to new mountain bike networks and infrastructure consolidations, here’s a brief update on the latest developments, as shared by April Kiser with ADPHT. More detailed announcements are expected in the coming months.
Delta Heritage Trail State Park
Construction is actively progressing on the long-planned connection between the Arkansas and White rivers. Although no official opening date has been set, the effort marks a significant step toward completing one of Arkansas’s most ambitious rail-trail conversions. Additionally, the Benzal Bridge project has entered the construction bidding phase, signaling movement on one of the trail’s key infrastructure components. (Previous Article)

The Trails at Mena
Design work continues for the new bike park near Ward Lake, known as The Trails at Mena. The project promises to bring new trail experiences to southwest Arkansas and is currently in the planning and design phase. (Previous Article)
Queen Wilhelmina and Maumelle Pinnacles
Trail development is also in progress at other parks in the system:
At Queen Wilhelmina State Park, new trail construction is underway to improve access and enhance hiking and biking options along Rich Mountain.
At the Maumelle Pinnacles, a Shared Use Path is under construction to accommodate multiple types of trail users near central Arkansas.
ADPHT Facility Realignment
While there are no plans to expand the ADPHT footprint at 1100 North Street in Little Rock, the department has completed a consolidation effort. Staff formerly housed at the Big MAC building have moved into the North Street facility and the CMF space across the street. A new lot currently under construction will serve as the staging and storage area for the department’s consolidated fleet.
