Mixing Mountain Biking and Eclipse Gazing
We haven’t talked much about the eclipse since we witnessed the totality event last month. There were so many places in Arkansas where we could have seen the eclipse, we had a hard time deciding on the best spot to be for the magic moment. In the end, we chose a field at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock located in the middle of the extensive mountain bike trail system. We had the field to ourselves and could easily listen to the insects and animals make their nocturnal sounds throughout the mid-day darkness. We had planned to go for a ride while we were there, but unfortunately, we got too absorbed in the spectacle and music playlist that I had created on Spotify for the event. The playlist worked out perfectly, but we ended up missing our chance to hop on the bikes, as we were focused on the skies and the music.
Meet Joe Bikes
Several individuals followed through with their plan and documented their entire experience. One of them, who goes by the username “@JoeBikes“, has a fantastic YouTube page that covers mountain bike trails across the region. I highly recommend subscribing to their channel. Joe spent the day at Mount Nebo State Park, which boasts one of the best trail systems in the state and recently hosted the Big Mountain Enduro Race. The Monument Trail system offers amazing elevation and exciting, flowy trails for riders of all levels. Out of the few videos we’ve seen, Joe’s video stands out as it showcases the climb up Ox Pull and provides helpful tips for riding the Chickalah (pronounced like “Tequila”) Downhill trail. His video perfectly captured the experience.
